Mahela was born to Sunila and Senerath Jayawardene at Colombo in 1977. Mahela Jayawardene is married to Christina Mallika Sirisena, a travel consultant. Christine Jayawardene did her schooling at an International school in Kandy in Srilanka and also from Denmark and India.
